NewsResources Available for Parents, Professionals, and Leaders Dealing with Tragedy, TraumaThe Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) has developed two new resources to assist individuals, professionals and community leaders in the wake of tragedies, like the recent school shooting in Connecticut. Leaders play critical roles in the recovery of communities and individuals after disasters and other traumatic events. Leaders identify the way forward, and hear and understand the present emotions and needs of their community. They communicate and reflect the community’s feelings and shared experience in order to lead the community in recovery. “Grief Leadership: Leadership in the Wake of Tragedy” addresses ways for community leaders to help people work through their grief in the aftermath of a devastating situation. Both fact sheets emphasize effective communication as a major factor when dealing with tragedy and grief.
