USC School of Social Work Names Learn4Life 2026 Agency of the Year
The University of Southern California (USC) Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work awarded its 2026 Agency of the Year to Learn4Life, a network of 80+ public charter high schools. Learn4Life has created a robust social worker internship program through USC and other colleges and universities throughout the country.
Learn4Life’s accredited school social worker team works with approximately 40 social worker interns who get on-the-job training at the schools for a year. The internship program is in its 10th year, creating a steady pipeline of new social workers who are ready to be hired in permanent positions.
“We take the time to teach, guide, and protect the well-being of the next generation of social workers,” says Lorena Galaviz, director of school counseling and student support at Learn4Life. “Our personalized learning model means our high school students receive one-on-one attention and flexibility to flourish in the way each learns best. We take the same approach with our social worker interns, which has made our schools an excellent training ground.”

Textbook Engages the Next Generation of Social Workers
A new textbook, Teaching Activities for Social Work: Creative Pedagogies to Engage Students, edited by Jill M. Chonody, PhD, MSW, LCSW, a professor at Boise State University School of Social Work, serves as a practical teaching and learning guide designed to help instructors bring active, engaging, and meaningful learning into social work education. The book offers concrete tools, such as creative teaching methods and in-class activities and assignments, and provides adaptable strategies, allowing educators to modify active learning approaches to fit their own classrooms. The textbook is organized into 20 themed sections, enabling instructors to easily find activities aligned with specific course goals and content areas.
Racial Equity Scholarship Covers Certification Expenses
Pocket Prep, an exam prep platform, is opening the application submission process for its seventh annual Racial Equity Scholarship. Applications are open from August 15 to September 15. The scholarship awards 10 recipients $1,500 plus full exam registration fees to help cover the cost of certification in various fields, including behavioral health. This scholarship is open to candidates from communities historically underrepresented in their field who are pursuing a supported certification and plan to sit for their exam in 2027. Applicants will write or record two short essays that will be reviewed by real humans, not an algorithm, looking for genuine stories rather than checked boxes. |
